Book: A Spectator’s Guide to World Religions

Book: A Spectator’s Guide To World Religions

In a single book, John Dickson presents five major world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Though Dickson is a Christian, in this work, he seeks to present each religion in its “best light”, hoping that in doing so, Christianity will appear best by comparison.

We’ve just spent a few weeks at Bible Study going through the chapters of the book, and have learned a lot about the different worldviews, or at least learned what he has to say about them: if you’re really interested in any of the faiths, you’ll want to read further. For instance, there’s no mention of why Islamic women wear distinctive clothing – one of many questions raised for us by the book.

As a starting point, though, and to help a reader come to grips with some radically different worldviews, the book is worth a look.
