Enron: The smartest guys in the room has been on my to-watch list for a long time, so when I saw it on ABC iview I thought it was worth trying to find the time to have a look. It’s another picture of what it means to be human: the greed, the desire to avoid being found out, and the ability of the well-connected to avoid (or postpone) having to answer for their wrong-doing. A cautionary tale. The scenes around the California blackout were probably the worst of human nature on display. One minor quibble: do we really need to see related stock footage when we’re establishing that one of the staff used to frequent “gentlemens’ clubs”?
Big, messy and complicated, this rambling movie of an unclimbable book sees its actors combine six stories, each in its own timeline, to tell a story of what it means to be human, with a thread of anti-slavery messaging included in the mix.
