Book: In the Name of Jesus: Reflections on Christian Leadership
I’ve heard of Henri J. M. Nouwen before, but this is the first of his books that I’ve even looked at. A welcome change of pace from the academic works I’ve been looking at, and a healthy reminder of the spiritual side of Christianity.
Spirituality itself – and even remembering that there is a God at the heart of Christianity is sometimes smothered in the quest for great teaching that I often find myself on.
This book, first on the recommended reading list for one of my college subjects (Ministry Formations). This remarkably short book – easy to read in a spare hour – is a timely reminder to those involved in Christian ministry. Is being a Christian leader about professionalism or scholarship? No. Being a Christian leader is first and foremost about being a Christian. Is the life of a pastor a solitary one – having been handed a compass and a backpack, are you on your own? No: a case can be made from the bible of Christian leaders working in pairs, not alone. Food for thought.
Glad you’ve discovered one of my favourite authors and someone who God’s used to shape me life lots 🙂
I think it’s your influence that I’ve even heard of him, actually.
