Easily the biggest surprise of the film is that Will Ferrell can actually act. This film won’t be to everyone’s tastes; if you enjoyed I Heart Huckabees, then you’ll like it. Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal are both excellent, and well cast, and Dustin Hoffman was probably my favourite character in the film. Great performances, a story that holds the viewer’s interest, and the ending was quite good, though it could have ended in another way that would, perhaps, have been better.
I actually thought it was heading to what would have been a better ending, then it shyed away from it. But i loved it. especially the information graphics in the opening scenes quantifying and explaining what he was doing as it happened, it was visually fantastic.
And i love the fact that it never tries to explain how it could all be happening, it just presumes its possible, because it is happening, wonderful.
it felt like a David Fincher style british comedy, in those opening scenes, I thought: between the infographics and Emma Thompson’s accent.
