Espressa coffee. 80 Devonshire St, Surry Hills. More deli than cafe, this well-presented little shopfront has a bench where you can sit indoors, or outdoor seating for about 16 people on a somewhat quiet street. Inside, the dominant feature as you walk in is the coffee machine: adjacent, a broad variety of breads (bagels, rolls) are on display, along with pastas and oils for purchase.
The breakfast special – $6.00 for a regular coffee and a bacon and egg on turkish bread (plus another $0.5 for decaf, and another $0.5 to upsize to large) is remarkably generous for the neighborhood, and makes for a well-executed breakfast.
It was the promise of “wood roasted coffee”, though, that drew me into this place at the first instance. The decaf is preground by the roaster, and so I think I was missing some of the subtle flavours, but nonetheless, it makes for a pleasant, easy-drinking cup.
