Bar Tosca, Surry Hills

Vittoria coffee. 300 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. In the plaza next to the old RTA building. It has a mix of indoor and outdoor seating for about 50 people. Inside, there’s a sandwich bar and a range of pastries sweet and savoury.

On duty is a chatty, engaging barista who knows his customers by name and order. This would be a pleasant spot to wait for someone you were meeting at Central station.

They have a decaf grinder, but the coffee is not ground to order. Coffee is hot and thin, with an odd flavour at first, but settles down to be a better-than-feared drop (I’ve had some bad experiences with Vittoria in the past).

  1. Am currently using their free Internet to make this post so already a positive
this latte is the best I’ve ever had and I’m a perfectionist when it comes to coffee
also had a lean lamb wrap and as stated on the boards – definitely the best in sydney (by far) make sure you add the chilli sauce 🙂

If you’re next to central station – have a coffee and a bite definitely recommended

  2. hey… how is this place???? is Bill (the boss) and NIna (boss’s wife) still there????

  3. Yep Bill and Nina are still there. Ive been working in Surry Hills for about 20 years and Tosca still make the best coffee. Ask for my special a chicken schnitzel with salsa and melted cheese. If you get time try the Soy hot chocolate 🙂

  4. Easily the greatest coffee in sydney CBD. I worked in surry hills for 11 years and recently moved to north sydney where i cant find a coffee as good.

  5. Warren…..”cappuccino is the first drink to test the barista” this is always what bill said to me.
